Keyword research
The first step in improving your SEO is to look for keywords that are important to your business, service, or product and have a high (monthly) search volume. This will help you understand what people are searching for and where you want to be found. Focus primarily on one main keyword and a few related keywords (depending on the length of the text). There are several tools available on the internet for researching keywords, some examples of which are Mangools, KWFinder, and Google Search Console.
Meta title and description
The meta title and description are displayed in the search results and therefore provide a (brief) description of that page. Search engines use this title and description to determine, for example, which keywords your page should be displayed for. In addition, it is very convenient for users to be able to read a (brief) introduction to the page they are visiting.
For the meta title, it is wise to match it with the H1 tag of that same page. Add the most important keyword at the beginning and then add (parts of) secondary keywords. Without making the title seem unnatural or repeating it too much. Finally, the title should contain 60 characters or less. The most important keyword should also be added to the beginning of the description, followed by a few secondary keywords. Keep the keywords within 160 characters. Write a good and catchy introduction to attract visitors to your website.
Header tags
Just like with a book, it is important to use structure when writing texts for a web page. To do this, web pages use H1, H2, H3 tags, among other things. This is similar to dividing a book into paragraphs. By using header tags, you can create higher-quality texts that are easier to read. And good texts are better for the reader and therefore better for your SEO.
H1 tags
When creating an H1 tag, the most important keyword should be added at the beginning. Then add secondary keywords, without making it seem unnatural or repeating them too much. Keep the H1 tag between 20 and 70 characters and make sure it is as similar as possible to the meta title. Finally, only use the H1 tag once on a page and ensure that the heading matches the user's search intent.
H2 and H3 tags
To build the other tags, put the most important keyword in the first and last H2. Add the secondary keywords to the other H2s. Keep them between 20 and 60 characters. Finally, use as many H2s and H3s as necessary. And add keyword variations and synonyms to the H3 tags.
Main content
For the main content, it is important to write an introduction in the first 100 words that explains what the article is about and confirms the visitor's intention. Also include keywords in the first 100 words, with the most important ones appearing as early as possible.
Within the main content, use primary and secondary keywords at least 2-3 times in a 1,000-word text. If the text is longer than 1,000 words, use them 4-5 times. Also, spread out the use of keywords.
Finally, write a summary of the article within the last 100 words. Again, use the primary and secondary keywords, regardless of their position.
Page URL
For the page URL name, use an exact keyword and add secondary keywords. Also, use hyphens instead of underscores. Remove numbers unless the keyword contains them.
Image
Finally, you need to consider the image. Obviously, the image needs to look attractive, but the file name and ALT text are also important for your SEO. Make sure that the keyword is mentioned in the file name. And make sure that each primary and secondary keyword has its own image with the same file name. Use hyphens and no underscores. Also, make sure that the file name is (as much as possible) the same as the ALT text (the descriptive words do not have to be used). In the ALT text, describe the image accurately and include the keyword. Place the keyword at the beginning (if possible) and keep it short. Finally, do not add "image of" to the ALT text.
